Samsung Mobile Print (for iPhone)

Samsung Mobile Print (for iPhone) offers a decent feature set for a mobile printing app, and it's worth downloading by owners of Wi-Fi enabled Samsung printers and multi-function printers (MFPs) who want to print from or scan to their iPhone. It works better with the latest iPhones, but any Samsung owner can benefit from it.

Basics
Samsung Mobile Print (for iPhone) is available for free through the iTunes app store; the same app is good for both the iPhone and iPad?Samsung MobilePrint for Android version is also available. Samsung Mobile Print lets you print to any Samsung wireless or network-connected printer or multifunction printer (MFP) (including USB-connected models) on the same LAN as your iPhone, and scan from any Samsung MFP on the network. I tested this app using a Samsung CLX-6260FW multifunction printer (MFP) and both an iPhone 4 and iPhone 5.

The app automatically detects Samsung networked printers, but in certain cases (such as if the printer is USB connected), you may have to add it manually, a straightforward process described in the Help menu. Once you've selected the printer, you're ready to go.

At the top of the screen is a bar with four items: Print, Scan, About, and Help, with Print and Scan being the app's main divisions.

Printing
When you touch the Print icon, you enter the printing half of the app, and are presented with six sources: Photo, Camera, Web, Document, Clipboard, and Google Docs.

You can print documents you've saved in your document folder, either ones you've scanned or ones you've imported to your iPhone. Samsung Mobile Print prints documents in standard Office, image, and PDF formats, at a range of paper sizes and thicknesses, in portrait or landscape orientation, in color or grayscale, in simplex (one-sided) or duplex (two-sided) modes. It has a similar range of settings for printing photos. I noticed a couple of issues. Some photos printed with a slight greenish tinge, which was absent when I printed these images to the same printer by other methods. There were occasional misformats; for example, a PowerPoint presentation with line breaks in the middle of words.

Printing from the clipboard is a useful function. You can print text or images copied from Web pages and applications that support copying. Using the Web browser, you can add bookmarks, but you can't import them. The app did reasonably well in formatting Web pages for printing, though occasionally it would crop the top or side of a document. Also, it would sometimes preview pop-ups (after I'd closed them) instead of the the article I was trying to print.

Google Docs is the only cloud-based service directly supported (with a dedicated button) by Samsung Mobile Print. You can print documents shared from some other services such as Dropbox, but you have to either first access the document in that service, select Open In and choose Samsung Mobile Print, or else open the cloud service's URL in Web mode.

In printing, as well as in scanning with my iPhone 4, I occasionally got a Low Memory warning, after which the app would fail to perform the intended function. Sometimes, it was in obviously memory-intensive tasks (like scanning at high resolution), sometimes not. Worse, the app would occasionally freeze. Closing and reopening the app didn't help; I'd have to turn my phone on and off to unfreeze it. I didn't encounter these issues after I upgraded to the iPhone 5 in the middle of testing.

Scanning
Scanning with Samsung Mobile Print on the iPhone is less useful than with the iPad, simply because the screen?even on the iPhone 5?is much smaller and so it's harder to read and view scanned documents. ?That said, you can always offload the scanned images to your PC, or email them elsewhere, when you have a chance.

You can scan either to Documents (a folder solely for scanned documents) or Photos (your photo stream). In scanning to Documents, you can choose between PDF, PNG, and JPEG; scanning to Photos is JPEG-only.? You can choose color or grayscale; low, normal, or high quality; and sizes including 3.5 by 5, 4 by 6, 5 by 7, letter, legal, and A4; and scanning from the flatbed or ADF.

Scanning, by and large, was easy, and it generally worked as billed. One issue I encountered a couple of times is that Samsung Mobile Print would not detect the scanner, even though it had no problem recognizing the printer, even though they're parts of the same MFP. Most of the time, though, the app would both print and scan.

Exchanging Files
There are several ways of transferring files from a computer to your iPhone and the app: through iTunes, a server, a Web browser, or mapping a network drive. They're described thoroughly in Help. iTunes is dependable, and using a Web browser (by entering your iPhone's server URL) is fairly easy.

Help
Tapping on Help brings up a pull-down menu, divided into seven sections: Samsung Mobile Print; Choosing a device; Printing; Scanning; File Sharing; Customization; and Troubleshooting. Touching any of the items within one of these sections brings up instructions, for example, for Printing Content from the Clipboard. I found the instructions to be clear and concise. At the bottom of the page are a Home button, which takes you back to the drop-down menu, and right and left arrows to move through Help item by item.

Conclusion
Samsung Mobile Print (for iPhone) is a worthy app for those who need to print to Samsung printers or scan from Samsung MFPs. Your experience will be better with a recent model iPhone, as I experienced memory issues and crashes with the iPhone 4, but, even with the older model, it is well worth downloading if you have a compatible printer.

Furnishing and decorating a large family home ? Larger Family Life

?

?

Decorating and furnishing a house normally allows for a certain degree of freedom of expression; designs can be exuberant and furniture contemporary, but going through the same process in a family focussed home has to be a little more restrained and practical.

Moving into such a home offers many challenges along the way, but strategically planning each room in terms of furniture and d?cor is by far the biggest and hardest.

A family home is a functional home and items around the house need to serve a useful purpose, as opposed to being there for the sake of style. Not to say design should be sacrificed completely; feel free to add your own personal touch to the d?cor and throw in a couple of attractive pieces of furniture.

However, when there?s more than your usual number of rooms to complete, there?s a fair deal of planning to be accomplished before single swipe of a paint brush.

Plan each room

The first step to any large family home should be get a floor plan of every room and decide where everything will go. This doesn?t have to done to professional standards; the plan is for your peace of mind if anything and will be a place of reference as you go along with furnishing and decorating.

If buying new furniture, ensure that each room has been measured and that any new item will definitely fit into that space; a definitive floor plan will make this so much easier to achieve. Current furniture also needs to be considered in the plan and should treated the same; using the space in a large house needs to be harnessed much more efficiently and effectively than a smaller equivalent.

Deciding on a style

A functional home needs to have substance over style, but as mentioned before, don?t feel that you are restricted and there is room for a bit of freedom. The children?s bedrooms will allow for a bit of expression, as bright, vibrant colours are usually enjoyed by the younger ones and a bit of wallpaper of their favourite characters from the telly usually goes down well.

It?s downstairs where a bit more consideration has to be made, with surfaces likely to need a clean every five minutes with little ones about and if painting, make sure you get a type that is able to be wiped down easily. The same goes for furniture; solid oak coffee tables might not stand up to the test of time when the kids think it?s a great idea to climb all over them, so perhaps the best place for such quality furniture might be in the master bedroom for the adults to enjoy properly.

In terms of an overall style, a nice traditional feel is very much advised over say a contemporary environment, as modern furniture tends to follow the direction of straight lines and angles ? not the safest place for children. Plus, a soft, welcoming environment is ideal for a family to enjoy, as it brings warmth and comfort, just what a family needs.

Sam Bisby is a blogger writing for The Furniture Market who offers a great range of quality wooden furniture, including tables, chairs and beds available in traditional oak and French styles.

By NBC News staff and wire reports

Amid rumors that Fidel Castro's health had deteriorated, a?message from the Cuban revolutionary leader?was read out on his behalf at an event in Havana on Wednesday.?

In a news item broadcast on state television, Cuba?s Minister of Public Health Roberto Morales was seen and heard delivering the statement marking the 50th?anniversary of a Havana medical school, according to?AP Television.

In it, the former president paid tribute to the thousands of clinicians who had graduated from the institute over the past half-century and reminded those present why it had been set up.

"The institute was inaugurated in response to the criminal action by the neighboring empire (referring to U.S.) to take, as it did with promises of visas and employment, the majority of our 6,000 medical doctors in this country," said Morales, reading the statement from Castro.

No images or sound from Castro himself were broadcast.

Cuba?s news agency, Prensa Latina, reported that during the ceremony, certificates of recognition, signed by Castro, were presented to workers, teachers and students.

A look at the life and times of the Cuban leader who has outlasted nine U.S. presidents.

The health and location of Fidel are shrouded in mystery. The Associated Press reported that Castro had been mostly out of sight since he left office in 2006 due to a life-threatening intestinal condition. At times the only word on how he was doing came in remarks from ally Hugo Chavez, Venezuela's president. On October 4, Chavez told reporters Castro had been in touch to comment on Venezuela?s presidential campaign.?

Breakthrough could help sufferers of fatal lung disease

ScienceDaily (Oct. 14, 2012) ? Pioneering research conducted by the University of Sheffield is paving the way for new treatments which could benefit patients suffering from the fatal lung disease pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH).

For the first time scientists have found an antibody treatment that not only stops PAH getting worse, but also reverses the condition in mice and rats. The research was funded by the British Heart Foundation and the Medical Research Council (MRC) and is published in the Journal of Experimental Medicine.

PAH -- high pressure in the blood vessels supplying the lungs -- is a devastating condition that affects almost 2,200 adults in England and Wales. It is caused by changes in the cells lining the arteries that take blood from the heart to the lungs (a process called vascular remodelling).

Vascular remodelling causes the walls of the vessels to become stiff and thickened making it harder for blood to flow through them, which in turn causes an elevation in blood pressure. This increased pressure places significant strain on the right side of the heart, which can lead to fatal heart failure if left untreated. PAH often affects young people, and more commonly women.

Current treatments for PAH target the constriction of the arteries, but fail to fully reverse the underlying vascular remodelling. The researchers demonstrated that a protein called TRAIL (tumour necrosis factor-related apoptosis-inducing ligand) worsened the progression of PAH in animal models, but blocking TRAIL with an antibody improved the disease.

Dr Allan Lawrie, a MRC Career Development Fellow from the University of Sheffield's Department of Cardiovascular Science, who led the study, said: "This research opens up a new insight into the mechanisms of PAH and suggests that TRAIL is critical to this process. If we can interrupt this process by blocking the TRAIL pathway, we have the potential to stop the disease in its tracks and even reverse the damage already done."

Since the discovery of TRAIL and its network of receptors, the majority of attention has focused on the clinical potential of manipulating this pathway in cancer therapy. However new research suggests that TRAIL plays broader roles in regulating immune processes, with this latest study suggesting it is critical to PAH.

"These data, from animal models, provide validation and we are now actively pursuing a route to develop human antibodies as a potential new treatment for PAH, though this is likely to be several years from the clinic," said Dr Lawrie.

Dr Shannon Amoils, Research Advisor at the British Heart Foundation (BHF), which co-funded the study, said:

"We urgently need to find new treatments for people with pulmonary arterial hypertension, a condition which can have a devastating effect on people's quality of life and is often fatal. This study shows that a protein called TRAIL plays a role in the disease by driving the overproduction of cells lining the lungs' blood vessels. This overproduction of cells is one of the factors leading to high blood pressure in the lungs.

"Importantly, the researchers show that in rodents, blocking TRAIL using an antibody dampens down this high cell turnover and reduces the disease severity. There is still a long way to go, but the hope is that the TRAIL antibody might be developed into a new treatment for patients in the future."

The research was conducted in collaboration with colleagues at the University of Cambridge, Imperial College London, the University of East Anglia, Sheffield Pulmonary Vascular Disease Unit and the National Institute for Health Research Cardiovascular Biomedical Research Unit.

Recording of exec alleging LAPD abuse weakens case, union says

On the morning of May 13, a man stopped an officer in the lobby of Glendale police headquarters and asked for help.

"I know this is gonna sound crazy," the man said, "but I feel like there are people following me. I feel like there was a chopper. Do you hear a chopper?"

"We don't have a helicopter up in Glendale," the officer replied.

Over the next 11 minutes, in a conversation the officer recorded, the man explained why he felt "a little paranoid." He'd recently been snorting "white lightning," he said, a type of synthetic drug known as bath salts that can trigger hallucinations and combativeness.

"I've probably used it 20 times," the man said.

The man, police said, turned out to be a managing director and vice chairman at Deutsche Bank, Brian C. Mulligan. He previously served as co-chairman of Universal Pictures and chairman of News Corp.'s Fox Television.

Within days of his exchange with the Glendale officer, Mulligan was laid up in the hospital after a violent ? and highly publicized ? encounter with two Los Angeles Police Department officers.

Mulligan filed a $50-million claim with the city, a precursor to a lawsuit. He alleged that the LAPD officers dragged him to a motel in Highland Park, threatened to kill him if he left, and then, when they discovered he'd escaped, beat him so badly that he suffered 15 fractures to his nose and required dozens of stitches.

Mulligan also contended the officers manufactured a report that painted him as a snarling, thrashing man who told them that he'd recently ingested bath salts and feared he was being chased.

On Monday, officials with the Los Angeles police officers union said the recording undercut Mulligan's version of what happened May 16.

But Mulligan's attorney, Skip Miller, said the similarity between those details and what Mulligan apparently told the Glendale officer was irrelevant to his brutality claim.

"This is about a severe unwanted and illegal beating of Mr. Mulligan," said Miller, who dismissed the statements of the Los Angeles Police Protective League as mudslinging. "We are going to try this case in court in front of a jury and not in the media," he said.

A Deutsche Bank spokesman declined to comment.

The day of the incident in Glendale, Mulligan had been shopping at the Glendale Galleria, he told the unidentified officer, who taped the conversation per department policy. The recording was turned over to the LAPD as part of its use-of-force investigation, said Glendale police Sgt. Tom Lorenz.

During the sometimes rambling exchange, Mulligan mentioned his home in La Ca?ada Flintridge, his wife of 25 years and his two children, one of whom he described as a budding football star. Mulligan said he travels almost weekly to New York and, to help him sleep, he got a prescription for medical marijuana.

"Probably my lawyer will kill me when I say this, but I went to a head shop and I bought some of that white lightning stuff," Mulligan said.

The officer asked Mulligan: Do you mean bath salts?

"I don't know what it is, but it was bad," Mulligan said.

Mulligan said he hadn't used the drugs for about two weeks, but he indicated that he was still feeling shaky.

"How long does this stuff stay in your ? system, man, how's it legal?" he asked.

Neuroimaging May Help Determine Risk of Relapse | Psych Central ...

By Janice Wood Associate News Editor
Reviewed by John M. Grohol, Psy.D. on October 13, 2012

Neuroimaging May Help Determine Risk of RelapseMeasuring brain activity through neuroimaging can help predict who is likely to have an easier time getting off drugs and alcohol, and who will need extra help, according to new research from Indiana University.

?We can also see how brain activity changes as people recover from their addictions,? said Joshua Brown, Ph.D., assistant professor in the Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences at Indiana University Bloomington.

Because relapses occur so frequently, there is a need for improved methods of treatment and relapse prevention, he said.

Brown noted?that one potential cause for relapse is deficient self-regulatory control over behavior and decision-making. This lack of self-regulatory ability in people who are substance dependent has been associated with dysfunction of a mesolimbic-frontal brain network, according to Brown.

Reduced activity within this self-regulatory brain network has been implicated in relapses, but the specific relationship between this network, self-regulatory ability and recovery is yet to be determined, he added.

The new study explores neurophysiological and cognitive indicators of self-regulatory ability in a group of substance dependent individuals during their first three months of addiction treatment.

Researchers tested the participants? risk-taking inclinations through what is called a Balloon Analog Risk Task, a game in which the participants can decide whether to add increasing amounts of air to a balloon, gaining rewards until it pops.

Those who took greater risks were shown to have reduced brain activity, the researcher noted, while those who took less risk showed greater brain activity.

After three months, those people who were successful in treatment also demonstrated a pattern of brain activation that coincided with the risk level of cues during the balloon task.

In individuals who relapsed, risk-related activation was limited to certain brain regions, possibly signaling the anticipated reward rather than the risk of negative outcome, he adds.

Shuttle X-ing: Endeavour spacecraft slowly winds through L.A.

In retirement, it's crawling along the streets of Los Angeles at a sluggish 2 mph, a pace that rush-hour commuters can sympathize with.

The space shuttle Endeavour sits in a strip mall as a Hawaiian Airlines jet approaches a runway at Los Angeles International Airport in Los Angeles, Friday, Oct. 12. Endeavour's 12-mile road trip kicked off shortly before midnight Thursday as it moved from its hangar at the airport en route to the California Science Center, its ultimate destination.

In retirement, it's crawling along the streets of Los Angeles at a sluggish 2 mph, a pace that rush-hour commuters can sympathize with.

Endeavour's two-day, 12-mile road trip to the California Science Center where it will be put on display kicked off early Friday. Rolled on a 160-wheeled carrier, it left from a hangar at the Los Angeles International Airport, passing diamond-shaped "Shuttle?Xing" signs, and reached city streets about two hours later.

Hundreds of spectators, some with pajama-clad children in tow, waited in the predawn darkness. In unison, they held up their cameras and cellphones and gaped as the 170,000-pound Endeavour inched by with its tail towering over streetlights and its wings spanning the roadway.

It made stop-and-go progress, with some halts to check its balance and to prune trees in its path as it crept past strip malls and storefronts.

In a massive feat of parallel parking, the?shuttle?was backed into a shopping center parking lot in the Westchester neighborhood around 5:30 a.m. ? later than expected.

Janet Dion, a family therapist from nearby Manhattan Beach, was in awe as she marveled at Endeavour, its sides weathered by millions of miles in space and two dozen re-entries.

"You can sense the magnitude of where it's been," Dion said, focusing on the heat tiles that protected theshuttle?during the return to Earth.

"It's exciting to see the tiles up close, especially the texture of the tiles," she said. "It's amazing. You can almost feel the fabric of it, like a skin. Like our skin."

Everyone it seemed wanted to pose with Endeavour. Firefighters, police officers and construction workers on duty took turns standing in front of it.

Others saw an opportunity to make a buck. Jason Duran and his friend printed up Endeavour T-shirts and hawked them for $30.

"We're entrepreneurs," he said.

Endeavour will remain at the parking lot for a nine-hour layover as crews worked to widen the carrier so that it could straddle the median during the next part of the trip. It was expected to move again in early afternoon then stop for several more hours to transfer to a special dolly for the cross over the busy Interstate 405 at night.

Ushering a?shuttle?through an urban core is a logistical challenge that took almost a year to plan. Guarded by a security detail reminiscent of a presidential visit, police enforced rolling street and sidewalk closures as early as Thursday night in some locations and discouraged spectators from swarming side streets.

The behemoth transport has caused headaches for shopkeepers along the route who counted on cheering crowds jamming the curbs to boost business.

In the days leading up to Endeavour's move, the owners of Randy's Donuts sold shuttle-shaped pastries emblazoned with the NASA logo and even hung a miniature?shuttle?replica inside the giant doughnut sign visible from the freeway.

Co-owner Larry Weintraub planned to watch the?shuttle?creep by the roadside sign, which has been featured in several movies. But the store, which serves up sweets 24-7, will be closed.

"I'm still excited, but I'm disappointed that people aren't going to be able to stand in the streets and shout 'Yay,'" he said.

Saturday is typically the busiest day for James Fugate, who co-owns Eso Won Books in South Los Angeles. But with Endeavour expected to shuffle through, Fugate braced for a ho-hum day in sales.

"We don't close because we're slow. That's when you pull out a book to read," he said.

The baby of the?shuttle?fleet, Endeavour replaced Challenger, which exploded during liftoff in 1986, killing seven astronauts. It thundered off the launch pad 25 times, orbited Earth nearly 4,700 times and racked up 123 million miles.

Last month, it wowed throngs with a dizzying aerial loop, soaring over the state Capitol, Golden Gate Bridge, Hollywood Sign and other California landmarks while strapped to the back of a modified 747 before finally landing at LAX.

The last leg of Endeavour's retirement journey skips the tourist attractions and instead, winds through blue-collar communities in southern Los Angeles County. While viewing will be severely curtailed due to sidewalk shutdowns, crowds are still expected.

Moving the Endeavour required a specialized carrier typically used to haul oil rigs, bridges and heavy equipment. The wheels can spin in any direction, allowing the?shuttle?to zigzag past obstacles. An operator walks alongside, controlling the movements via joystick. Several spotters along the wings are on the lookout for hazards.

To make room for the five-story-tall?shuttle?and its 78-foot wingspan, some 400 trees were chopped down, cable and telephone lines were raised, and steel plates were laid down to protect the streets and underground utilities.

Endeavour will mostly travel on wide boulevards with some boasting as many lanes as a freeway. While there have been advance preparations, there is remaining work to be done during the move, including de-energizing power lines. Southern California Edison warned of outages in the suburb of Inglewood.

One of the trickiest parts involves trundling through a narrow residential street with apartment buildings on both sides. With Endeavour's wings expected to intrude into driveways, residents have been told to stay indoors until the?shuttle?passes.

The route was selected after ruling out other options. Dismantling the?shuttle?would have ruined the delicate heat tiles. Helicoptering it to its destination was not feasible. Neither was crossing on freeways since theshuttle?is too big to fit through the underpasses. The cost of transporting it cross-town was estimated at over $10 million.

As complex as the latest endeavor is, Southern California is no stranger to moving heavy things.

In 1946, Howard Hughes' "Spruce Goose" aircraft was built in sections and hauled from Culver City to Long Beach, 30 miles away. In 1984, an old United Airlines DC-8, with its wings and tail disassembled, was towed from Long Beach to the science center.

Earlier this year, a two-story-tall chunk of granite was hauled 105 miles from a rock quarry to the Los Angeles County Museum of Art.

Amazon.com down for some, sporadically

1 day

Bad news for folks who were rushing to do some online shopping on Friday morning: Amazon.com went down for some.

Based on an overwhelming number of tweets declaring that the popular online retailer's site was down, attempts by several NBC News editors to access the site, and a peek at the handy-dandy DownForEveryoneOrJustMe.com, it seems that the Amazon site was either down in certain regions or sporadically timing out.?

We've reached out to the folks at Amazon to see what happened and will update when we know more.

Want more tech news?or interesting?links? You'll get plenty of both if you keep up with Rosa Golijan, the writer of this post, by following her on?Twitter, subscribing to her?Facebook?posts,?or circling her?on?Google+.

PFT: Brees still unhappy with Goodell

350x-4Getty Images

Saints quarterback Drew Brees isn?t happy with the league office.? And he continues to talk about it.

Specifically, he remains concerned about the power that the Commissioner possesses.

?Just the fact that, these unilateral decisions can be made without any kind of oversight, just seems like there?s ? and I?m not talking about the decisions that are made when a guy gets a DUI, or when a guy gets a weapons charge, or gets caught making bad decision in that regard,? Brees tells Sean Gregory of TIME.com.? ?You know, it seems like there?s just this abuse of power in a lot of ways when it comes to things like certainly the bounty allegations and accusations.?

But here?s the thing.? Roger Goodell has the power that the players collectively have given him, via the process of collective bargaining.? And Brees, as a member of the NFLPA Executive Committee, was directly involved in the decision to sign off on a new Collective Bargaining Agreement that preserves the Commissioner?s power.

The union erred, in our view, by agreeing to a new economic formula, sending players to training camp in 2011, and then haggling after the players were back to work over non-monetary issues, like the Commissioner?s power.? Instead, the NFLPA should have insisted on getting everything worked out before anything was worked out.? Once the players had returned to their teams and the lockout essentially ended, the players had no leverage.? So Goodell dug in on his power, and the players had no option but to shrug their shoulders and accept it.

Then there?s the fact that the Commissioner?s power isn?t nearly as unlimited as Brees and others would have us all believe.? For example, the restraints on Goodell?s authority resulted in the suspensions of the four players being vacated last month ? and the new suspensions eventually could be vacated, too.

Of course, none of this means that the Commissioner properly has been exercising his considerable authority.

?Disappointed with the way that the replacement referee situation went down,? Brees said.? ?Really a lack of accountability from the top down.? Also, I feel like, in large part, this bounty scandal, so to speak, is a big facade, and a way to cover up the shortcomings of the league, and the commissioner, with regards to player health and safety over the last three years.?

Plenty of people feel that way.? There?s a chance that more than a few owners share those views, and they?ll all be getting together next week in Chicago for the first time since the bounty scandal and the referee lockout blew up in the league?s face.

Whose Way: Yours or Theirs | Small Business Trends

Sometimes as small business owners, the desire to do it your way can drown out your customers? voices. Even though many of us went into business to spread our wings, to live out that phrase made famous by Frank Sinatra, ?I did it my way,? and to make a ton of money at the same time. ?Bottom line ? your customers get a vote.

this versus that

You Can?t Sell What People Aren?t Buying?

Even if you create something that has never been seen before, it has to meet a need or the money just won?t follow. In fact, your product or service has to meet a desire that your clients are willing to pay for. The only way to know for sure is to watch their spending and behavior.

If you?re launching something new, then pay attention to spending on products or services similar or closely related to the product or service that you plan to sell.

Get Back To Some Hands On Research?

Get in front of your people again. Interact with them, watch their spending, become like them and see what you learn. Yes, you want to collect the statistics.

For example, you want to know how much money is made on Mondays verses Saturdays so that you know which days to close or how to target your marketing to get people through the door on those days.

But you also want to know what it feels like to be your client. One way to do that is to walk in their shoes. Shop in your own store. Use your own services. If you feel like you know too much to be objective, then send a mystery shopper in.

The goal is to shift your perspective from the boss in the building to the visitor. When you?re a part of the audience you?ll discover some things.

Is Your Language Clear And Easy To Understand?

I just received a two page promotion from a company. After reading every word, including the colorful insert, I can honestly say that?I have no idea who they are and what they have. ?But I did read a lot of:

And

  • ?Discover the benefits.?

As well as

Reviewing your marketing materials from the perspective of your audience makes it easier to find the gaps between what you know and what your potential new customers need to know.

Here?s an example of getting it right. SlideDeck tells you at the top of their Web page that they?re ?for WordPress.? And if you find them through the search engines (Google, Yahoo) you see in the title of the page that SlideDeck is a ?Wordpress Slider & Gallery Plugin.? So if you?re not using WordPress as your content management system, then SlideDeck isn?t for you.

Is Your Product As Smart As It Could Be?

It?s about being effective and progressive. The more you use your own stuff, the more you?ll discover the weaknesses. And innovation is driven by problem solving. But you can?t solve the problems that you don?t see.

At the days end, your potential clients are looking for answers. Being a savvy small business owner is about making it our job in our respective industries to find those answers, discover their new questions and? offer the best solutions we know how to answer ? over and over again.

Air Force Lab Test Out "Aircraft Surfing" Technique To Save Fuel

Drafting, defined as "following someone/something in a manner to reduce your aerodynamic drag by traveling in air moving at a lower relative velocity" excludes this act.

If you feel it is drafting, please state the definition of drafting you are using, as I've not seen a definition of drafting that would include this.

It does not depend on mitigating detrimental vorticies. NASCAR drafting does, and the lead car gets the benefit from the reduced drag. This does not benefit the vehicle in the front and is the following car using a predicted vortex to its advantage, while traveling through otherwise undisturbed air. Thus "drafting" where the folower uses the lead car to "break the air" is not happening.

Rather than having to define "drafting" to a bunch of morons who are too stupid/lazzy to google, I'd rather discuss the efffect of this on commercial aircraft for the rest of us, flight lanes with airplane flocks saving fuel. Or discussions on how much the winglets affect this effect. But no, it's all a discussion of the definition of "drafting" with a bunch of google-illiterite people.
